Carol Hanson Abstract

By nature I am an abstract artist. I am drawn to the instinctive quality of shape, form, color, line, and texture. There is such an expressive freedom to be found when painting in this way.

Stephen Hanson Landscapes

Over the last several years I have been deeply drawn to work from nature as seen in the many landscapes in this gallery. Oftentimes, I have gone out into the mountains or forests, to paint directly from what is in front of me.

Carol Hanson Landscape

Over the years I have painted landscapes as well as various depictions of street scenes. One will find a wide range of this subject matter in this gallery.

Stephen Hanson Buildings

Even when I was in junior high school, I had painted older farm houses in the area where I was growing up. The inspiration has still carried me these many years in finding rare and unusual buildings of various kinds.

Carol Hanson Watercolor

I enjoy the expressive quality and spontaneity that watercolor offers me. I plan on doing several more of these over the months and years ahead.

Stephen Hanson Biblical

I have been inspired to paint very biblical and spiritual themes over the years. You will find various depictions from the bible as well inspirations that have influenced me in these works.

Stephen Hanson Still Life

Like many of the artists from the past, setting up a still life has always attracted me. I enjoy the various textures, shapes and designs that are at my disposal.

Color and expressive brushstrokes have been a passion for me, as well as form and pattern.  Over the years each time when my work changes,  it has been a continual learning process. Take a look at my work and contact me for any questions or interest.

Thank you,
Carol Hanson

All true art comes from observation and once an artist can "see" how they want to portray the world around them, then they use the tools that they are accustomed to using, whether it is paint, pencil, stone, or fiber.
My artwork has changed over the years, and lately, I am drawn to painting the different hues and light variations that are seen in nature.  I enjoy packing up my gear and heading towards a nearby canyon where we live in Colorado Springs, There's something about getting away from the mundane life that we all face, and getting to that unique place in nature.
I am also drawn to setting-up new and unusual objects and finding that "right"  composition of  simple still life objects to paint.  While this has been done perhaps thousands of times before by various artists, each approach is new and different, and each approach has a new challenge of lighting and textural effects to capture.
Lastly, I am drawn to the spiritual.  I am a prophetic person and I long to express this view of the world in Biblical and sometimes end-times scenes.
